Sigma has announced its 150-600 F5-6.3 DG DN OS ‘Sports’ lens for full-frame Sony E and Panasonic/Sigma/Leica L-mount bodies.
This superzoom lens is comprised of 25 elements in 15 groups, including 4 ‘FLD’ (low dispersion glass similar to fluorite) and 2 ‘SLD’ (special low dispersion) elements, as well as a ‘Super Multi-Layer coating’ that reduces flare and ghosting. The focus elements are driven by a stepping motor. The built-in optical image stabilizer can reduce shake by up to a claimed four stops.
The 150-600 is splash and dust resistant, and the front element features a fluorine coating to repel oil and water. It also features a unique zoom torque switch. It can be set to locked, tight or smooth. Tight offers some resistance and prevents ‘zoom creep’. Smooth has little resistance and lets you zoom by rotating the ring or by using the push/pull method by grabbing the rubberized ring at the front of the lens just beyond the zoom ring. The minimum focus distance is 58cm (22.8″) and the maximum magnification is 0.34x.
The lens has three AF-L buttons, as well as switches for turning stabilization on/off and selecting from three focus distance limiters. A customizable switch is also on hand. The tripod collar features an integrated Arca Swiss-compatible plate and easily moves in 90° increments. The lens accepts 95mm filters.
The Sigma 150-600mm F5-6.3 will be available later this month for $1499.
