27 Jul My Fujifilm X100F Acros Film Simulation Recipes
Source: Fujifilm Insider
I’ve had my Fujifilm X100F camera for one week now. I’m absolutely loving it! It’s such an exquisite camera from a design perspective and from an image quality perspective. It’s a blast to use and just makes fantastic photos!
A lot has been said about how great the new Acros film simulation is. I can testify to the truth of it! I feel confident stating that it’s the most film-like film simulation available on any digital camera. Acros looks beautiful, with great tones, contrast and grain. It’s as good as any black-and-white film I’ve used, except with the convenience of digital. Fujifilm did a fantastic job creating this!
I’m not sure how accurately the Acros film simulation matches actual Neopan Acros film (I’ve used it before, but not much and not recently), but it doesn’t matter if it’s 100% accurate or not. It just looks beautiful! Out-of-camera JPEGs look amazing, like post-processed RAW files that have been treated with a monochrome film simulation preset (such as Alien Skin, VSCO or Silver Efex).
I’m still fiddling with the exact Acros settings that I like most. I don’t know if there is a one-size-fits-all recipe, anyway. Some images might need more contrast and others less contrast. Some might look good grainy while others might look good clean. Each situation might call for some setting to be adjusted for specific photographs. Being dynamic in the field is good.
And with the Fujifilm X100F, it’s easy and quick to make those dynamic adjustments. There are plenty of buttons in the right places that can be customized to allow quick changes. So even though I’ve created customized film simulation recipes, I’m not afraid to make some changes on the fly in order to make a photograph better.
Even though I’ve only had the X100F for a week–and only posted a small number photographs on-line that I’ve captured with the camera–I’ve had a couple inquires already about what settings I use. I know it’s a popular topic that a lot of people are interested in. So without further ado, below are my current custom Acros film simulation recipes!
