19 Nov MacPhun – Luminar
I ordered a copy of MacPhun’s Luminar software to try out. I have used it to edit some recent Fuji X-T2 images and it feels like a fun and intuitive application. It runs as a stand alone application and also as a plugin for Photoshop and Lightroom
Here is an example image with a RAW file exported as is from Lightroom and the same image with an out of the box pre-set applied from Luminar. In this case ‘Abandoned Building’
I’ll write a more detailed post in the coming days.

X Trans Foliage
There is a lot of conversation around Adobe Lightroom and rendering of X Trans RAW files especially with regard to foliage.
I did a non scientific experiment with Luminar and Adobe Lightroom. I rendered a typical Landscape Photograph and have added to 100% crops of distant foliage (from the corner of the frame) for comparison. The Luminar render certainly looks cleaner and less painterly in appearance.
